Sayyid Al-Hakeem: To Bequeath Tribal Relations Legacy to Future Generations

From Al-Shatra District in Dhi Qar Province, and at the guesthouse of the esteemed Bani Zaid tribe, where His Eminence was received by Sheikh Riyadh Farhoud Suleiman Al Shareef, Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers Alliance, met with a large gathering of the district’s sheikhs and dignitaries.
During the meeting, H.E. reflected on the deep-rooted historical ties with the Bani Zaid tribe and the tribes of Al-Shatra, emphasizing that these connections are a legacy inherited from forefathers and will be passed down to future generations.
H.E. highlighted the significant challenges Iraq has faced since 2003, noting that foreign agendas sought to destabilize the country—starting with the bombings that targeted the UN envoy, followed by the martyrdom of the late Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Mohammed Baqir Al-Hakeem (may Allah sanctify his soul), and culminating in efforts to incite sectarianism and distort Iraq’s image. H.E. stressed that these agendas attempted to create a misleading narrative that does not reflect Iraq’s reality.
Discussing Iraq’s security challenges, H.E. recalled the threat posed by ISIS, which seized control of one-third of the country’s territory. H.E. praised the courage of Iraqis who responded to the religious authority’s fatwa, alongside the support of allies, which collectively led to restoring security through immense sacrifices of blood and tears.
H.E. emphasized the need for unity, a cohesive national discourse, and prioritizing the country’s interests, while also stressing the importance of engaging with regional and international partners. H.E. reaffirmed that dialogue remains the most effective means of bridging differences and strengthening relations, calling for greater cooperation among all stakeholders to achieve stability and development.
Reiterating H.E.’s approach to relations with Turkey, H.E. advocated for a three-pronged strategy focusing on water resources, economic ties, and security cooperation, stressing the need for fair water management. H.E. also underscored the importance of safeguarding Iraq’s achievements, urging local governments, security agencies, and tribal leaders to foster a stable and investor-friendly environment while resisting any extortion attempts targeting investments and investors.
In closing, Sayyid Al-Hakeem renewed the call for adopting a tribal charter prohibiting bloodshed and the use of weapons in resolving disputes, affirming that such a commitment would be a pivotal step toward strengthening social peace and stability in Iraq.
This visit is part of H.E.’s broader tour in Dhi Qar, aimed at enhancing engagement with Iraqi tribes, addressing their concerns, and fostering national unity to drive development forward.
