Sayyid Al-Hakeem Commends Farmers Cultivating Land, Achieving Self-Sufficiency
During a meeting with a group of farmers under the auspices of the Farmers’ Union in Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf, Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers Alliance, praised the efforts made to achieve self-sufficiency. H.E. emphasized Iraq’s potential to become the region's food basket, capable of meeting regional demand for agricultural products.
H.E. highlighted the pressing issue of water scarcity, noting that most of Iraq's water resources originate from beyond its borders. H.E. called for the optimal utilization of water resources and the modernization of irrigation and agricultural methods.
H.E. also stressed the importance of fostering a tripartite framework with neighboring Turkey, encompassing water, security, and economic collaboration. H.E. underscored the need for cooperative water management and knowledge exchange with Turkey while considering Iraq’s current realities.
In addition, H.E. urged the adoption of modern mechanization in agricultural processes, pointing to the possibility of maximizing production within the available water resources. H.E. reiterated that reliance on oil alone is an unsustainable model for Iraq and advocated for revitalizing productive sectors such as agriculture, industry, tourism, investment, and technology. H.E. noted the current government’s focus on agriculture, emphasizing the Prime Minister’s expertise in this field.
