Sayyid Al-Hakeem Meets with Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, Congratulates Region‘s Successful Parliamentary Elections
At the outset of his visit to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers’ Alliance, met with the President of the Kurdistan Region, His Excellency Mr. Nechirvan Barzani. His Eminence congratulated them on the successful elections and broad public participation, noting that the elections' success represents an added achievement for Iraq's democratic experience. H.E. also called on the winning parties to promptly form the government and prioritize unity over minor disputes, emphasizing the importance of the government's role in providing services and advancing development, as well as sustaining the region's ongoing reconstruction efforts.
H.E. affirmed that the stability of the Kurdistan Region directly impacts Iraq's stability, highlighting that experiences over the past two decades demonstrate Iraq's need for stability across all regions to achieve lasting peace. H.E. reiterated the call to resolve disputes between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, encouraged sustained communication between Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region, and stressed the importance of relying on the constitution, applicable laws, public interest, and mutual concessions to resolve outstanding issues.
On the political front, Sayyid Al-Hakeem emphasized the need to elect a new Speaker of Parliament, underlining the importance of consensus within the Sunni bloc on a candidate to facilitate the process for other political factions and representatives in Parliament. H.E. also stressed the importance of safeguarding Iraq’s sovereignty from any violation, adding, “The stability of Iraq is essential for the stability of the region.”
