Sayyid Al-Hakeem on Imam Muhsin Al-Hakeem’s Passing Anniversary: Remembering a Mission-Oriented Religious Authority That Shaped Awareness and Preserved Iraq’s Unity
On the anniversary of the passing of Grand Ayatollah Imam Sayyid Muhsin Al-Hakeem (may his soul rest in peace), Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of Al-Hikma National Movement, reflected on the late Imam’s scholarly, spiritual, national, and social contributions, emphasizing that this solemn occasion is an opportunity to revisit the school of Ahl Al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and its values of altruism, insight, sacrifice, and wisdom.
His Eminence stated that Imam Mohsen Al-Hakeem was not merely a religious authority but a comprehensive civilizational project whose scholarship enriched the Islamic library and jurisprudence. H.E. noted that Imam Al-Hakeem was the first to dispatch preachers to distant lands to spread authentic Islamic teachings and reinforce moral and humanitarian principles.
H.E. highlighted that, socially, the Imam’s relationship with Iraq’s tribes was marked by mutual trust, creating a deep-rooted connection that continues to strengthen Iraq’s religious and social fabric. Nationally,
H.E. praised the Imam’s resolute stance against colonialism and his support for all Iraqi communities, recalling his historic defense of the Kurdish people and his condemnation of atrocities committed against them—principles that cemented Arab-Kurdish brotherhood and embodied justice and fairness.
On the Islamic front, H.E. recalled Imam Al-Hakeem’s fatwa declaring anyone who fights for Palestine a martyr, his ruling permitting zakat to support Palestine, and his firm condemnation of the Zionist entity and its schemes to erase Islamic identity.
Concluding his speech, H.E. said: “Peace be upon the Imam of the Shia community, the day he was born, the day he answered his Lord’s call, and the day he is raised to life again. We ask Allah to grant us the honor of following his path, carrying his vision, and living by his counsel.”
