Sayyid Al-Hakeem Visits Halabja Memorial, Stresses Global Recognition for Halabja Tragedy
As part of his visit to Sulaymaniyah Governorate, Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers Alliance, paid tribute at the Halabja Memorial (Monument) to honor the victims of the Halabja tragedy and all Iraqi martyrs. H.E. laid a wreath in their memory, commemorating their immense sacrifices in the face of the atrocity committed by the former regime against the Iraqi people.
H.E. described the Halabja tragedy as a heinous crime against humanity, emphasizing the need for global recognition of this atrocity in international forums. H.E. further stressed that the responsibility to preserve the memory of this tragedy and pass it on to future generations lies with the people of Halabja, as much of the world remains unaware of the full scope of this horrific event.
H.E. highlighted how the tragedy was shrouded in media censorship at the time, expressing pride in the efforts of Aziz Al-Iraq, Sayyid Abdul Aziz Al-Hakeem (may Allah sanctify his soul), who played a pivotal role in documenting and exposing the crimes of the former regime, including Halabja, on the international stage. However, H.E. noted that the global awareness of the Halabja tragedy still falls short of reflecting its magnitude and devastating consequences.
H.E. called for intensified efforts to ensure this tragedy is properly documented and acknowledged globally, so the victims may receive the recognition they deserve.
