Sayyid Al-Hakeem Visits Basra Oil and Gas University, Emphasizes Importance of Developing the Oil Sector and Utilizing Resources
As part of his tour in Basra, His Eminence Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers' Alliance, visited Basra University of Oil and Gas. His Eminence met with the Head University Dr. Mohammed Haleel Al-Kaabi and the deans, praising the university's role in advancing the oil industry and stressing the need to elevate its standards to match the progress of other oil-producing countries.
H.E. emphasized that achieving this ambition requires a focus on human resource development. H.E. noted that Basra has vast agricultural lands, most of which are owned by the Ministry of Oil, highlighting the need to find solutions that balance citizens' needs with the requirements of the oil industry.
H.E. called for the adoption of modern extraction technologies that allow people to live their lives unaffected by oil activities. H.E. stressed the importance of enforcing agreements with oil companies operating in the province, particularly those related to providing job opportunities for the unemployed. H.E. also highlighted the need to activate vocational training institutes to prepare skilled technicians capable of advancing this vital sector.
H.E. pointed out that Basra contributes significantly to Iraq, and it deserves equitable returns for its contributions. H.E. entrusted Basra University of Oil and Gas with the responsibility of contributing to the development of the oil industry while also emphasizing the importance of foreign investments in this field.
Regarding the energy sector, H.E. stressed the need to harness natural gas and end flaring operations. H.E. noted that Basra has the potential to become an economic icon in the region by leveraging this resource and transforming it into an investment and export opportunity.
At the end of the visit, H.E. reaffirmed support for the university, wishing it success in achieving its goals and emphasizing its crucial role in supporting the national economy and developing Iraq's oil and gas sector.
