Sayyid Al-Hakeem from Ramadi: We Need Unity in the National Stance, Society’s Immunity Against Sectarianism Becomes a Reality

Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers Alliance, participated in a panel discussion organized by the Dar Al-Anbar Organization for Culture in the city of Ramadi, attended by Sheikh Dr. Abdul Razzaq Al-Saadi and a group of religious scholars, cultural figures, and social elites.
During the session, Sayyid Al-Hakeem stressed the importance of national unity and the continuation of visits and communication among all parties, calling for the exchange of viewpoints and joint deliberation in service of Iraq’s unity and the cohesion of its society.
H.E. pointed out that this marks his third visit to Al-Anbar Governorate, explaining that previous security conditions had been an obstacle to repeated visits. H.E. recalled his 2007 visit to the province, highlighting the warm reception it received despite the difficult circumstances at the time. H.E. reaffirmed that sectarianism in Iraq is political rather than societal, citing the tightly woven tribal fabric and high rates of inter-sectarian marriages—even at the height of tensions—as evidence.
H.E. called for a responsible review of Iraq’s recent historical phase, considering the General Amnesty Law a vital opportunity for national reconciliation, as it offers pardon to those not involved in Iraqi bloodshed. H.E. urged that this issue be kept away from political exploitation and bidding wars.
H.E. emphasized the importance of unifying national rhetoric and rallying around the voice of moderation, noting that Iraqi society today possesses genuine immunity against sectarianism. H.E. also recalled the pivotal role played by the Supreme Religious Authority in safeguarding Iraqi blood and establishing social peace.
On regional matters, H.E. stressed the importance of preserving national interests with neighboring Syria, underlining the need to pay attention to shared border issues, religious shrines, and social components in ways that support regional stability and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood between the two peoples.
H.E. concluded by affirming that building a just and strong state can only be achieved through a unified stance and the prioritization of national interest, alongside the continued promotion of a culture of dialogue, openness, and tolerance.
