His Eminence Sayyid Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers’ Alliance, stressed during a meeting with a group of young elites and talents as part of Diwan Baghdad activities that Iraq is passing through exceptional circumstances at both the regional and international levels, affirming that the elite are called upon to understand ongoing developments and possess the ability to define and defend their positions with determination and resolve.
His Eminence called for setting ambitions within the bounds of what is realistic and attainable, noting that this approach helps avoid frustration and despair.
Addressing the regional landscape, H.E. Sayyid Al-Haakeem pointed out that the Islamic Republic of Iran was subjected to bombardment and its leaders were targeted while it was engaged in negotiations and presenting positive signals, emphasizing that the conflict was not balanced between the two sides. H.E. praised the resilience of the Iranian people and their strong internal cohesion.
H.E. further noted that statements issued by the Supreme Religious Authority called for mobilizing all available capabilities to bring the war to an end, alongside providing media, social, humanitarian, and relief support.
On the domestic political front, H.E. Sayyid Al-Hakeem explained that Iraq’s political system is based on pluralism within a parliamentary framework, yet faces challenges in decision-making and relies heavily on understanding among political blocs and components. H.E. noted that the Coordination Framework has put forward multiple figures and candidates through various mechanisms, stressing the urgent need to resolve the selection of the Prime Minister within the remaining constitutional timeframe. H.E. also called for reforming political practices in a way that facilitates effective decision-making.
H.E. highlighted that Iraq is significantly affected by regional escalation due to its reliance on oil exports, renewing the call to diversify export routes to avoid further financial losses.
H.E. called for restoring Iraq’s regional role through openness to all parties based on mutual interests, as well as rebuilding political and media discourse toward the regional and international environment.
Regarding the compulsory military service law, His Eminence noted that, in principle, there is a need to rebuild the character of Iraqi youth on national values and principles; however, key considerations must be carefully addressed, foremost among them timing, implementation details, and thorough study.
His Eminence concluded by emphasizing the importance of empowering youth and believing in their capabilities, citing the democratic experience that produced the Political Bureau and the leadership of the General Assembly of Al-Hikma National Movement as a model to be followed.
