Sayyid Al-Hakeem: Moderation, Centrisim Safeguard Iraq’s Stability

Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers Alliance, met on the morning of Saturday, October 18, 2025, with a gathering of tribal sheiks, dignitaries, and residents of the Holy Province of Karbala. His Eminence congratulated the attendees on belonging to the city of the Master of Martyrs, Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), noting that such proximity to the leader of the great reformist cause places a greater moral and social responsibility upon them.
H.E. urged sincere and diligent work in serving the people, warning against the growing phenomenon of candidates spending excessive sums in election campaigns—an approach, H.E. said, that reflects ulterior motives beyond legitimate parliamentary privileges and legal rights.
H.E. explained that the widening gap between the public and the Council of Representatives stems from the conduct of some MPs in past terms, particularly their absence from sessions or delays in convening them. H.E. stressed the need to correct this behavior in the upcoming parliamentary cycle, emphasizing that a representative should be a dynamic force of service, oversight, and responsiveness to citizens’ needs, as the position holds the influence and responsibility equivalent to that of a minister.
H.E. also recalled that Iraq has successfully overcome the challenges of sectarianism, terrorism, political disputes, and social tensions, highlighting that the current economic and service conditions are now considerably better—a fact acknowledged by visiting international delegations. H.E. called for safeguarding these achievements, saying: “Iraq has reached a critical turning point, so do not waste it.”
H.E. further stated that “the path of moderation and balance is what has protected Iraq—and will continue to protect it in the coming stage.” H.E. affirmed that the upcoming elections will play a decisive role in ensuring Iraq’s stability if voters choose moderation and centrist voices wisely, emphasizing that broad, conscious participation is the true guarantee of everyone’s rights, including those who opt for non-participation.
