Sayyid Al-Hakeem at Baghdad Tribal Forum: Upcoming Elections Decisive, Require Conscious Participation to Ensure Representation and Stability

During the Baghdad Tribal Forum, which gathered sheikhs and dignitaries from across Iraq, Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers’ Alliance, on Saturday, September 27, 2025, emphasized the deep-rooted and historic relationship with Iraqi tribes, describing it as an inheritance passed down from forefathers to their children and grandchildren. His Eminence stressed that diversity is one of Allah’s great blessings upon Iraq, praising the sacrifices made by the tribes in resisting dictatorship, and recalling the ordeals endured Al-Hakeem family in confronting the former regime and the martyrs it offered.
H.E. also remembered the late Martyr of the Nation, Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah (may his soul be sanctified), on the first anniversary of his martyrdom, offering condolences on this painful occasion and affirming that history is always written with the blood of great leaders—whether the pure Imams, the eminent scholars, or the exceptional commanders.
H.E. outlined Iraq’s approach to regional issues, explaining that Iraq engaged politically, in the media, and through humanitarian relief, without direct involvement. H.E. underlined that maintaining this balance was challenging, yet the wisdom and understanding of the Iraqi people allowed the country to succeed in this role. H.E. also reflected on the political, social, and security challenges Iraq has overcome, along with its growing openness to its regional and international surroundings.
H.E. stressed that current priorities lie in five key service sectors: water, electricity, health, education, and infrastructure. H.E. expressed optimism regarding promising plans to secure water sustainability, called for resolving the electricity crisis while meeting rising demand, and urged comprehensive planning aligned with national needs. H.E. also emphasized the importance of healthcare and education in nurturing future generations, as well as infrastructure, noting that delivering services and creating jobs strengthen citizens’ connection with their homeland and political system.
Turning to elections, H.E. described the upcoming vote as decisive and historic, comparable to the 2005 elections that laid the foundation for democracy. H.E. affirmed that these elections could usher Iraq into a stage of lasting stability, provided there is broad, effective, and conscious participation. H.E. stressed the need to preserve the representation of political components, clarifying that such representation is not a personal privilege but a right of communities and their social and political standing. H.E. added that participation safeguards the rights of both voters and non-voters, emphasizing that fulfilling rights depends on choosing the right candidate within the right list.
In closing, H.E. called for a unified salary scale that ensures fairness among employees, expressing hope for an integrated vision to resolve this issue in line with state capacities and financial revenues. At the same time, H.E. underlined that investment in Iraq must be channeled into projects that add real value to the national economy, both from within and beyond the country, to achieve the intended purpose of investment.
