Sayyid Al-Hakeem from Al-Shaab District: Upcoming Elections Are Key to Iraq’s Stability and Development

From Baghdad’s Al-Shaab district, Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers Alliance, met on Monday, September 22, 2025, with tribal sheiks and dignitaries of Al-Ma’amara Tribe, and a group of Baghdad’s sheiks, dignitaries and residents. His Eminence explained that this gathering comes at a sensitive moment in Iraq’s history and the region, noting that the guidance of the Supreme Religious Authority, the awareness of the Iraqi people, and the wisdom of political leaders are vital pillars in safeguarding Iraq and enabling it to engage positively with regional developments without being consumed by them.
H.E. stressed that Iraq is a nation with deep historical and civilizational roots, recalling that prophets began their missions from this land and that history records Iraq’s central role from the dawn of civilization to the present, marked by major reformist movements. H.E. described this role not as coincidence but as divine planning and care for Iraq.
H.E. reminded the audience of the hardships Iraqis endured, including terrorism, and how their patience and courage allowed Iraq to rise again. H.E. pointed to sectarian projects that once sought to divide society, underscoring the decisive role of the supreme religious authority in defending unity and cohesion. H.E. affirmed that Iraqis have moved past political strife through clear principles and conduct, while praising Iraq’s renewed engagement with its regional and international surroundings after years of isolation.
H.E. underlined that services, reconstruction, and development are priorities for the next phase, stressing the importance of addressing five key pillars: water, electricity, infrastructure, health, and education. H.E. called for dignified services in all these areas across provinces, with special attention to Baghdad’s Al-Shaab district.
H.E. emphasized that the upcoming elections are crucial for reinforcing stability and transforming it into sustainable stability, explaining that while the 2005 elections established democracy, the upcoming elections will cement and extend stability. H.E. noted that Iraq is making significant strides toward lasting recovery and approaching a normal state, urging broad, effective, and informed participation in the elections and the selection of capable candidates from credible lists. H.E. stressed the importance of choosing representatives who remain connected with their constituents after winning their seats.
H.E. once again warned against candidates who spend excessive amounts of money to secure a parliamentary seat, pointing out that such expenditures far exceed the legal salaries and benefits of a member of parliament and suggest ulterior motives unrelated to serving the people or representing them faithfully.
