Sayyid Al-Hakeem from Mahmudiya: Upholding Unity, Democracy Key to Safeguarding Iraq’s Achievements

At the guesthouse of Sheikh Ayed Al-Kallabi in Mahmudiya district, Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers Alliance, met with a large gathering of tribal leaders, community figures, and residents in an open dialogue that reflected genuine engagement with citizens’ concerns and aspirations.
His Eminence began by congratulating the attendees on the anniversaries of the Prophet’s birth (peace be upon him and his family) and the birth of Imam Jaafar Al-Sadiq (peace be upon him). H.E. urged adherence to the Prophet’s path of patience, perseverance, and reform, recalling the Prophet’s call at the Ukkaz market—“Say there is no god but Allah and you will prosper”—despite the rejection and challenges he faced at the outset of his mission, until Allah’s promise of victory was fulfilled during his lifetime and after.
H.E. praised Mahmudiya, describing it as an “icon of love and peace” for embodying diversity and coexistence that mirrors Iraq’s true image, stressing that this makes the district a model of national unity.
Touching on Iraq’s political challenges, H.E. recalled the era of dictatorship and suppression of freedoms, calling for a strong commitment to the democratic system as a national achievement that must be defended. H.E. noted that sectarianism in Iraq was politically driven, fueled by foreign agendas serving narrow interests at the expense of Iraq’s stability.
On public services, H.E. underscored the urgent need to improve water, electricity, infrastructure, healthcare, and education in Mahmudiya. H.E. commended the people’s resilience and attachment to unity and life, affirming that progress in these areas is achievable through collective effort and by leveraging the current stage, particularly with the district’s representatives now holding positions in parliament and the executive branch.
H.E. further emphasized the importance of the upcoming elections in shaping Iraq’s next chapter, urging citizens to participate widely and consciously, while stressing the necessity of electing “the right person within the right list” to ensure Iraq’s transition from fragile to lasting stability.
In closing, H.E. cautioned against excessive financial spending in election campaigns, noting the stark contrast between pre-election expenditures and the actual remuneration of elected officials. H.E. called for revisiting this phenomenon, setting regulations aligned with democratic values, and strengthening Iraq’s national economy through responsible and prudent governance.
