Sayyid Al-Hakeem Meets New Baghdad Governor, Stresses to Empower Local Governments, Enhance Public Services
Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers Alliance, received today in his office the newly elected Governor of Baghdad, Mr. Atwan Al-Atwani, in the presence of Baghdad Provincial Council President Mr. Ammar Al-Hamdani and several council members. H.E. congratulated Mr. Al-Atwani on earning the council’s confidence and assuming leadership of the capital, wishing him success in fulfilling his responsibilities.
His Eminence emphasized the importance of granting local governments their full constitutional and legal authorities, noting that provincial councils are a foundational pillar in delivering services as they are the first point of contact with citizens. H.E. stressed that the success of local administrations reflects positively on the broader political and economic system and reinforces Iraq’s federal structure.
H.E. also underlined the need to strengthen coordination between the Baghdad Governorate and key service institutions—particularly the Baghdad Municipality and relevant ministries. H.E. called for the completion of stalled projects and greater attention to underserved outskirts by ensuring the delivery of essential services.
H.E. urged efforts to improve Baghdad’s overall appearance and quality of life, with a focus on environmental and public health conditions. H.E. also highlighted the value of leveraging national expertise, academic research centers, and legislative support to overcome obstacles hindering service delivery.
Concluding the meeting, H.E. encouraged proactive field engagement and the adoption of modern technologies in managing projects and services. H.E. affirmed that achieving stability within provincial councils directly contributes to improved governance and tangible enhancements in citizens’ living conditions.
