Sayyid Al-Hakeem Receives U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires, Affirms Democratic Path, Dialogue Importance
Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers Alliance, received Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Baghdad, Ambassador His Excellency Steven Fagin. The meeting discussed recent developments in domestic and regional political affairs, as well as bilateral relations between Baghdad and Washington.
His Eminence affirmed that Iraq has achieved significant gains that strengthen its political system and support its democratic path, stressing the importance of the upcoming elections in consolidating stability and advancing toward a new phase of sustainable stability, and calling for broad, active, and informed participation in them.
H.E. also called for adopting dialogue as the means to resolve internal disputes, noting that the constitution provides a solid foundation for this if approached with a spirit of compromise in favor of the greater national interest, while safeguarding the rights and duties of all components.
H.E. stressed the need to unify national discourse and move away from sectarianism, racism, or inflammatory rhetoric that undermines the country’s stability. H.E. further noted that Iraq’s stability is closely linked to the stability of the region, expressing hope that calm will prevail across the region in a manner that serves the interests of its peoples and enables them to benefit from its resources.
