Sayyid Al-Hakeem: Time to Cement Regional Stability, Prevent relapse into conflict
Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers Alliance, received the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Baghdad, Ambassador Steven Fagin, earlier today.
During the meeting, His Eminence emphasized that Iraq is currently experiencing an unprecedented period of peaceful coexistence and social solidarity, as clearly reflected during the early days of Muharram. H.E. noted that the Iraqi government, along with political powers and societal actors, has made considerable efforts to shield the country from the consequences of regional tensions and to safeguard its sovereignty and national interests.
H.E. underscored the importance of preserving regional stability and avoiding a return to the cycle of wars, stressing that the region has already paid a heavy price over past decades. It is now time, H.E. affirmed, to entrench security and stability across the Middle East.
H.E. also highlighted Iraq’s commitment to maintaining international balance and deepening global partnerships, encouraging greater investment in Iraq’s promising market and calling for stronger economic cooperation with the United States, particularly through leveraging the expertise of American companies.
In the same context, H.E. reaffirmed support for the Iraqi government’s foreign policy of openness toward regional and international environments.
The meeting concluded with a renewed emphasis on the significance of the upcoming elections as a critical juncture in consolidating democracy and strengthening stability in both Iraq and the broader region. H.E. affirmed that the essence of democracy lies in credible elections and the peaceful transfer of power.
