International Day Against Drug Abuse, Sayyid Al-Hakeem Warns of Escalating Threat, Urges Nationwide Action to Protect Youth, Society
Marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse, the Head of the National State Powers Alliance, His Eminence Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, reiterated his warning about the growing threat of drug abuse in Iraq, stressing that it is a destructive plague targeting the nation’s youth—who represent the foundation and future of the country.
H.E. noted that drugs have become a malicious tool aimed at dismantling communities, destroying minds, and tearing families apart. These dangers are further exacerbated by economic hardship, unemployment, and a lack of public awareness—necessitating an urgent and coordinated national response to confront this looming crisis.
H.E. urged the government and relevant institutions to intensify their security and judicial efforts in tracking down drug dealers and traffickers, and to provide stronger support for law enforcement in dismantling criminal networks. H.E. also called for comprehensive public awareness campaigns targeting youth across schools, universities, and broader society.
H.E. stressed the need to establish specialized centers for the treatment and rehabilitation of addicts to help them reintegrate into society and play a constructive role.
In this context, H.E. appealed to families, civil society, and religious and community leaders to take on their moral and national responsibilities by promoting awareness, confronting the threat, and working together to shield Iraq’s youth from the grip of addiction.
