Sayyid Al-Hakeem Reaffirms Iraq’s Support for Iran, Urges Internal Consolidation, Strengthening National Unity
Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers Alliance, reiterated Iraq’s support for the Islamic Republic of Iran during a gathering at the Baghdad Forum for Political and Social Elites. H.E. renewed his condemnation of the Israeli attacks targeting Iran, despite Iran’s consistent adherence to legitimate, humanitarian principles and its transparency in managing its nuclear file.
H.E. remarked that the world was caught off guard by the Israeli assault, especially amid ongoing negotiations. He stressed that Iran, as a state of institutions, is capable of swiftly and efficiently recovering from such losses by replacing leadership positions without disruption. H.E. emphasized that wars are not defined by a single encounter but by a series of evolving confrontations, commending the Iranian public's unified stance during the crisis.
Turning to Iraq’s domestic affairs, H.E. underscored the urgency of reinforcing Iraq’s internal front in light of growing regional tensions. He described sectarianism under current conditions as a national transgression and called for the promotion of unity and the embrace of Iraq’s rich diversity as a true national asset.
Speaking on the upcoming elections, H.E. described them as both foundational and decisive for the next phase. He welcomed the encouraging rates of biometric card updates and urged the creation of an environment conducive to broad, informed voter participation. He also noted the suspension of out-of-country voting due to high costs and low turnout, urging elites to take responsibility in raising public awareness about the importance of the democratic process.
Regarding Iraq’s political direction, H.E. stressed the need to build the state on rational and just foundations, balancing logic and emotion in political decision-making. He reaffirmed that the parliamentary system is essential for ensuring representation of all societal components. H.E. called for the activation of strategic, priority-driven programs and insisted that administrative positions be assigned based on merit rather than political quotas.
H.E. further explained that the National State Powers Alliance is presenting realistic visions and programs ahead of the elections. Through its provincial visits, the alliance aims to strengthen unity and move from peaceful coexistence to a model of constructive integration in managing diversity.
On the issue of public services, H.E. called for justice toward people with disabilities and for meeting their basic needs. He also emphasized the importance of resolving disputes between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government through constitutional and technical frameworks.
In conclusion, H.E. highlighted the need to review Iraq’s social contract and constitution to ensure fair representation of all components. He called for practical solutions to the ongoing water crisis, including the adoption of modern irrigation techniques to guarantee the sustainability of the country’s water resources.
