Sayyid Al-Hakeem at State Affairs Office Annual Conference: Iraq Recovering Steadily, Upcoming Elections Crucial for Democratic Consolidation

Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers Alliance, delivered a keynote address at the annual conference of the Office for State Affairs—an affiliate of Al-Hikma National Movement—where H.E. stated that the region is undergoing exceptional circumstances amid alarming developments in Palestine, Lebanon, and Yemen. H.E. affirmed that Iraq has taken a firm and principled stance in support of the Palestinian cause while wisely avoiding direct entanglement in regional crises. At the same time, H.E. expressed optimism regarding the ongoing dialogue between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States.
H.E. affirmed that Iraq has made clear strides in recovering across the security, political, and social spheres and is now witnessing a broad campaign of reconstruction and development. H.E. also noted growing regional and international engagement, positioning Iraq to play a pivotal role in regional affairs. This progress, H.E. explained, is rooted in Iraq’s commitment to a path of moderation and centrist policy—a vision that has gained wide internal and external consensus.
Despite facing targeted defamation campaigns, H.E. stated that Al-Hikma National Movement has remained committed to its principles of moderation—an approach grounded in a wise and time-tested project that has withstood critical moments in Iraq’s modern history for more than a century.
H.E. stressed that the current phase is one of service and reconstruction, which must take precedence. H.E. urged members of Al-Hikma National Movement to be at the forefront of efforts to realize these priorities, particularly by attracting investment and capitalizing on the country’s current security stability.
Touching on economic challenges, H.E. pointed out that fluctuations in oil prices could be turned into an opportunity to revitalize key productive sectors such as industry, agriculture, tourism, and technology. H.E. called for bold reform decisions to strengthen these sectors and reduce reliance on oil revenues.
H.E. also emphasized the importance of humility, public service, and offering practical solutions to citizens’ problems—values that lie at the heart of Al-Hikma’s vision.
Concluding the address, H.E. described the upcoming elections as a turning point no less significant than the landmark elections of 2005, affirming that they are essential to solidifying democracy and securing long-term stability. H.E. called for early preparation and broad, informed participation to ensure the elections’ success and legitimacy.
