Sayyid Al-Hakeem Receives Ancient Church of the East Patriarch, Stresses Christians’ Return, Iraq’s Reconstruction Participation
Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers' Alliance, received this evening His Beatitude Patriarch Mar Georgis III Younan, Patriarch of the Ancient Church of the East in Iraq and worldwide. The meeting included discussions on the current situation of Christians in Iraq and ways to support and empower them to fulfill their national and social roles.
His Eminence emphasized the importance of encouraging Christians to voluntarily return to their homeland and take part in rebuilding and developing Iraq, noting that their active presence contributes to the country’s stability and ongoing recovery.
Sayyid Al-Hakeem reaffirmed that Christians are one of the original peoples of the Iraqi nation, a vital component that enriches the national identity. H.E. stressed the need to manage Iraq’s diversity with respect, considering it a source of strength, and called for the country’s communities to serve as bridges for connection between Iraq and the broader region and world.
