Sayyid Al-Hakeem Marks Anfal Atrocity 37th Anniversary, Calls for Justice for Victims

Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers Alliance, commemorated the 37th anniversary of the Anfal massacre, describing it as “one of the most horrific episodes of death and destruction suffered by the Iraqi people under the former dictatorship.”
In a statement marking the occasion, His Eminence said: “Our Kurdish people endured immense suffering under this heinous crime, facing brutal oppression, forced displacement, mass graves, property seizures, and the destruction of farmlands, orchards, and villages—making it one of the darkest chapters of human rights violations.”
H.E. emphasized the importance of honoring the memory of the victims and called on all political partners to take meaningful steps to recognize their suffering, memorialize their plight, and ensure both material and moral compensation for them and their families.
H.E. concluded with a solemn tribute: “Peace be upon all of Iraq’s martyrs, and heartfelt salutations to their pure souls who nourished this land with their sacred blood.”
