Sayyid Al-Hakeem from Tuz Khurmatu: Coexistence Is Iraq’s Strength, and Its Communities Are Bridges to the World

As part of his ongoing tour of Salah Al-Din Province, Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers Alliance, visited Tuz Khurmatu and its surrounding villages, where H.E. met with a diverse group of tribal leaders, community figures, and local residents from various ethnic and religious backgrounds. In a speech filled with warmth and appreciation, His Eminence described the district as “a city of martyrs and an oasis of peaceful coexistence.”
H.E. emphasized that Tuz Khurmatu mirrors Iraq in miniature, bringing together Arabs, Kurds, and Turkmens under one shared identity. H.E. noted that terrorism sought to disrupt this diversity and unity, but the steadfastness and cohesion of the people thwarted those efforts.
Highlighting coexistence and diversity as an undeniable reality and destiny for Iraq, H.E. called for organizing relations among the country's components within the framework of a unified national identity. H.E. stressed the need to honor each group’s cultural, religious, and ethnic distinctiveness, describing any attempt at erasure as a fundamental error and a violation of the Qur'anic call to embrace diversity as a source of enrichment.
H.E. pointed to the participation of Iraqis from different communities in one another’s holidays and events as a powerful message of unity and true citizenship. Managing diversity, H.E. explained, means transforming it into a force that strengthens Iraq’s regional and global presence—as was evident in the historic visit of Pope Francis, which reflected the enduring presence of Iraq’s Christian community.
H.E. urged continued support for national unity and efforts to strengthen coexistence in Tuz Khurmatu, so the district can stand as a living model of social harmony and constructive pluralism.
H.E. went on to say that Iraq is currently witnessing significant progress across political, security, economic, and social sectors, and has effectively become a nationwide workshop. This positive transformation, H.E. added, should inspire both gratitude and further efforts to build on these advancements.
In closing, H.E. called on all communities in Tuz Khurmatu to take part in the upcoming elections and to update their voter registration cards, ensuring authentic political representation that reflects the district’s diversity and serves its future.
