Sayyid Al-Hakeem Highlights National Unity, Communal Harmony During Meeting with Samarra Sheiks, Dignitaries

During a gathering hosted by Sheikh Mazhar Al-Hatem, Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers Alliance, met with a group of tribal leaders, dignitaries, and intellectuals from the city of Samarra. His Eminence reflected on the historic bond between the religious authority of Imam Al-Hakeem (may his soul be sanctified) and Iraq’s tribes, especially the Hashemite families. H.E. described Samarra—home to many from both the Hassani and Husseini lineages—as a source of pride not only for himself but for all Iraqis.
H.E. underscored the importance of focusing on shared values among Iraq’s diverse communities, with patriotism at the forefront. H.E. noted that the legacy of Imam Al-Hakeem's religious authority included consistent support for causes across the region, including the Palestinian and Kurdish issues. H.E. added that Iraq’s history is filled with examples of different groups standing up for one another’s rights, demonstrating a deep spirit of solidarity and mutual support.
H.E. emphasized that Iraq’s past challenges should be seen as opportunities for future advancement, explaining that the hardships the country has faced have strengthened the collective awareness of the need for unity and cooperation. H.E. also stressed the importance of respecting each group’s identity and ensuring the freedom to practice religious and cultural traditions openly—a right that must be safeguarded by all.
Touching on democratic values, H.E. acknowledged that democracy comes with its complexities, such as the diversity of opinions and the challenge of consensus. However, he affirmed that it also protects Iraq from authoritarianism and the monopolization of power. H.E. called for ignoring extreme and divisive voices, expressing confidence in Iraqi society’s resilience against radical rhetoric.
In closing, H.E. renewed his call to resolve the issue of the displaced, stating that their continued displacement is inconsistent with the country’s stable security conditions. H.E. also called for serious efforts to address the lingering issues in Samarra, expressing optimism that its designation as the Capital of Islamic Civilization would enhance its development and public services. Finally, H.E. urged learning from history without being held back by it, stressing the need to deepen intercommunal coexistence and move forward toward a better future.
