Sayyid Al-Hakeem Calls for Moderation, Rejects Inflamed Rhetoric During Meeting with Salah Al-Din Elites
As part of his ongoing tour of Salah Al-Din Governorate, Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers Alliance, met with a group of prominent figures, professionals, and activists from the region, in the presence of the Governor, Mr. Badr Mahmoud Al-Fahal. The meeting served as a key platform for open dialogue and direct engagement with local stakeholders. H.E. emphasized that such provincial visits aim to stay closely informed of the on-the-ground realities and to contribute to addressing the challenges facing the country.
In his remarks, H.E. stated that Iraq has endured various forms of terrorism, pointing to the persistent attempts to vilify the political process. H.E. described these efforts as deliberate campaigns to distort the Iraqi reality and undermine national unity. “Iraq can only be compared to itself—no other nation has endured the level of suffering experienced by the Iraqi people,” H.E. affirmed.
H.E. noted that the country has gone through difficult times marked by political polarization and social fragmentation, creating openings that terrorism readily exploited. However, H.E. observed that the growing frequency and normalcy of political leaders coming together today signals a recovery in Iraq’s political environment. H.E. urged the public to refrain from supporting candidates who propagate divisive or hostile rhetoric, noting that such discourse has no place in the current climate.
Stressing the importance of adopting a middle-ground approach, H.E. called for mutual concessions among all political actors to enable progress in decision-making and national policy. H.E. referenced prior instances when the Coordination Framework and other forces compromised for the collective good, advocating a continued commitment to moderation and unity, while safeguarding the achievements made across the provinces.
H.E. also emphasized the need to foster optimism and positivity within Iraqi society, noting that both the region and the broader international community rely on Iraq’s stability due to its central strategic role.
In conclusion, H.E. reiterated the importance of resolving unresolved issues and prioritizing the public interest over narrow agendas. H.E. called for urgent action on the case of displaced persons in Salah Al-Din and compensation efforts, stressing that accountability must be directed at individuals responsible for wrongdoing without implicating entire sects or tribes.
