Sayyid Al-Hakeem Commemorates Halabja Attack Anniversary, Emphasizes Importance of Honoring the City with a New Iraqi Governorate

On the 37th painful anniversary of Halabja’s chemical weapons attack by the dictatorial regime, Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers Alliance, emphasized that the martyrdom of Halabja remains a deep wound in the hearts of Iraqis and the world. The city continues to be a symbol of the pain and aggression endured by its people.
In a statement on this occasion, Sayyid Al-Hakeem highlighted that Halabja was not merely a historical incident, but a significant symbol for Iraqis, as it serves as a reminder of the horrific crime against its residents. This tragedy is one of the most atrocious war crimes of the modern era. H.E. stated, "The memory of Halabja is etched in all of our consciences, and it must remain a constant reminder of Iraq's suffering."
On this solemn occasion, H.E. Al-Hakeem expressed his deepest condolences to the souls of the martyrs, praying for mercy and eternal peace for those who perished in this heinous crime. H.E. also wished for healing and patience for the survivors of the tragedy.
H.E. reiterated that the best tribute to Halabja would be to establish it as a new Iraqi governorate, to achieve justice for the city’s people, create job opportunities, strengthen its economic potential, and ensure broader political representation in Iraqi decision-making, ultimately improving the living conditions of its residents.
H.E. added that implementing this proposal would enhance Halabja’s role in Iraq's development and reconstruction, marking this honor as a step toward achieving justice for the victims and raising the standard of living in a city that holds a profound place in every Iraqi’s heart.
In conclusion, H.E. Al-Hakeem called on all Iraqis to unite in solidarity with the people of Halabja, honoring its martyrs in a way that reflects the sacrifices they made.
