Sayyid Al-Hakeem Visits Halabja, Stresses Development, Justice for Martyrs
During his visit to Halabja, Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers Alliance, met with the city’s local government officials and directors of service departments. His Eminence commended the city’s urban development while emphasizing the need for further infrastructure enhancement. H.E. called for the establishment of healthcare facilities, psychological rehabilitation centers, and environmental initiatives. H.E. also underscored the importance of voting to officially designate Halabja as an Iraqi governorate, a move that would increase its allocations, attract investments, and serve as a meaningful tribute to the families of Halabja’s martyrs.
H.E. noted that his visit to the city was an expression of solidarity with its people and a gesture of condolence for its martyrs. H.E. highlighted the message of peace and coexistence that Halabja represents for all Iraqis, stressing the importance of keeping the memory of the Halabja tragedy alive as a lesson to prevent such crimes from recurring.
Reflecting on the oppressive nature of the former regime, H.E. emphasized the need to remember its crimes and to ensure that similar atrocities are never repeated. He drew parallels to the suffering of the Lebanese and Palestinian people, who continue to face acts of genocide involving prohibited weapons.
H.E. also recalled his leadership of a task force documenting the martyrs of Halabja at the time of the tragedy. H.E. described his efforts to visit hospitals in Tehran, capturing photographs and recording details of the martyrs. H.E. stressed the importance of preserving and documenting these memories to serve as a lasting testament to the horrific nature of the crime.
