Sayyid Al-Hakeem Discusses Religious Discourse, Social Challenges with Sunni Endowment Head

Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers Alliance, met this morning with His Excellency Sheikh Mishaan Al-Khazraji, Head of the Sunni Endowment Office, to discuss developments in Iraq’s social landscape, the nature of religious discourse, and strategies for addressing current challenges.
Sayyid Al-Hakeem emphasized the importance of modernizing religious discourse and adapting its tools and methods to keep pace with contemporary shifts and societal needs. He stressed the need for a unifying language that fosters cohesion rather than division, affirming that building on common ground between religious sects and faiths remains the most effective path to strengthening national unity.
The meeting also included a reflection on the tragedies and crimes that took place in Iraq around this time in its recent history, and the suffering they caused. Sayyid Al-Hakeem underlined the need to confront inflammatory rhetoric that fuels discord and division, warning of its detrimental impact on social peace.
The two sides also discussed several pressing social issues facing Iraqi society, including the spread of drug abuse, rising divorce rates, and domestic violence. They called for a more proactive role from religious institutions in addressing these problems through cooperation and solidarity, while offering realistic and impactful solutions that tackle the root causes and contribute to long-term societal stability.
In conclusion, Sayyid Al-Hakeem praised the efforts of the Sunni Endowment and its initiatives promoting unity and coexistence, highlighting the importance of further strengthening this approach to confront current challenges and help build a secure, balanced future for all Iraqis.
