Sayyid Al-Hakeem calls for new Iraqi-International Organizations draft to advocate bilateral relationships
In His Eminence’s meeting with the Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Ms. Jeanine Plasschaert on 12/11/2023, Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of Al-Hikma National Movement discussed the political developments in Iraq and the region, upcoming events, and the role of the United Nations in supporting Iraq.
His Eminence reiterated the importance of preserving the achieved stability in Iraq, emphasizing its transformation into a sustained form, which was the result of the sacrifices made by the Iraqi people.
H.E. stressed the upcoming local elections and highlighted their role in reinstating decentralization to Iraq's administrative system, allowing provinces to elect their governments and appoint their governors. Furthermore, these elections will empower provinces to leverage their resources and capabilities, facilitating a fair distribution among cities, districts, and regions.
H.E. illustrated the significance of reshaping the relationship between Iraq and international organizations operating within its borders and stressed the necessity of moving away from the current state of grants and aid, advocating for bilateral partnerships based on priorities outlined by the government, and aligning with Iraq's objectives in the forthcoming period.
Turning to the Palestinian situation, H.E. emphasized the critical need to first halt the ongoing war, deliver humanitarian aid, and provide essential necessities to a population that has been isolated for over a month, enduring the impacts of severe bombardment. Additionally, H.E. stressed the urgency of ending double standards in dealing with the people of Gaza, emphasizing the indivisible nature of issues such as civilian rights, children's welfare, women's rights, human rights, and the right to freedom of expression.
