Sayyid Al-Hakeem Calls to Establish Criminal Karrada Bombing Victims’ Memorial

During his meeting with several families of the victims of the Karrada bombing, Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers' Alliance, stated, "The incident was a tragedy by all standards and stood out among other acts of terrorism due to its timing during the last nights of the blessed month of Ramadan, the high number of martyrs, which reached six hundred, the type of materials used, and the prevalence of young people among its victims." His Eminence considered the loss a national and public loss before it was for the victims' families alone, illustrating that the current stability in its various forms — security, political, and social — resulted from those sacrifices.
H.E. explained that Karrada was targeted because of its sectarian and commercial significance and its economic impact. H.E. expressed the pride of Imam Al-Hakeem’s family (may his soul be sanctified) to have their name among the families of the martyrs, emphasizing that Iraq today, in the eyes of others, is a source of admiration and praise for the achievements made.
H.E. stressed the importance of documenting the heroism and sacrifices of the Iraqi people and passing them down from one generation to the next, incorporating these stories into educational curricula. H.E. considered the beloved capital, Baghdad, with its rich cultural and historical heritage, worthy of all care and attention, especially in restoring its scientific institutions and reconstructing the shrines of the four ambassadors of Imam Al-Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance). H.E. called for the establishment of a monument for the Karrada martyrs and compensating the victims, praising the Prime Minister's attention to the issue of the Karrada martyrs and their compensation. H.E. urged moving beyond hardships, enduring the pain, and turning the ordeal into an opportunity for construction and development.
